Josh & Sheridan
Before I share how amazing this surprise proposal was, I have to go back over a month ago to when Josh first contacted me. I am a huge fan of Buckskin Bride, it is the best blog when it comes to real western weddings and inspiration. One day, they posted and said that they were looking for photographer's in Phoenix so I immediately jumped on the opportunity. Come to find out it was for Josh! He lives in Oklahoma and he planned a trip to Phoenix for Labor Day weekend where he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend, Sheridan. He knew that Sheridan was obsessed with Buckskin Bride as well so he reached out to them hoping to find a photographer to capture it all, that's where I came in!
Planning a surprise proposal when they live multiple states away was a tough one, but we had over a month to plan. I suggested the Desert Botanical Gardens because you can't come to Phoenix without seeing a few hundred cactus. Plus, they were going out to dinner before, we had to make it look less suspicious so why not visit the most touristy spot?! Josh and I planned on meeting at the Botanical Garden around 6:00 pm so we would have plenty of time after the proposal to start taking more photos before the sun would go down.
So, after multiple phone calls and lots of planning, the day finally came! I got there early so that I could be in the perfect spot and let Josh know exactly where I was going to be. Again, planning this in secret was pretty difficult, so I tried to be as thorough as I could and since he has never been there before I found a 360 degree map that way he knew where I would be and where I thought the best spot for them would be. I even drew little stick figures so that he knew exactly where I wanted him to be.
Now, having never met them (besides stalking their Instagram) I had to ask what Josh was going to be wearing so I could make sure that I wouldn't miss them. They finally arrived and started walking towards the thicket of cactus that is near the entrance of the Botanical Garden. I was at the end of the pathway, they reached the spot... and Josh kept walking. I instantly started panicking and without trying to draw any attention to me I quickly ran closer to them. I truly thought I was going to miss it, my heart was racing and my hands were shaking as I'm trying to grip my camera. I walk near them along the path and Josh makes eye contact with me, so I gave him the thumbs up, and that's when it finally happened! He got down on one knee and proposed, Sheridan was thoroughly surprised and I'm happy to say that I got ALL of it! My favorite part of the whole proposal was when Josh busted out the ring and asked if she would marry him, but instead of reaching for the ring, she immediately kissed him. That's when you know this is true love!
My husband, JJ, was there too and we surprised them with some video since we knew their family couldn't be there to witness it. I'm so happy for Josh and Sheridan and so thankful to be the one to document such a huge moment in their lives!
